XV NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF POLISH SKI AND TOURIST RESORTS
ARE WE SEEING THE DUSK OF THE SKI INDUSTRY DESPITE THE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF SKIERS? HOW ARE SKI RESORTS RESPONDING TO THE POLITICAL SITUATION IN THE WORLD AND CLIMATE CHANGE?
Hotel Szczawnica Resident & SPA *****
16-18 October 2024

The beautiful golden autumn has arrived in Poland and it is time to inform you about the next, already fifteenth edition of the ski industry conference in Poland.

We are observing many disturbing events that are happening in the world, which are also difficult to ignore in the tourism industry. In addition, we have been seeing (for years!) climate changes that we notice every day in our ski resorts. Running a ski resort is not a task for people who hide from challenges. What defines us is definitely - enthusiasm, tenacity and adaptation in unpredictable conditions, without it we would not survive as an industry!

We have one more feature - we act! During the October meeting, we would like to briefly tell you what we have done in the issue of taxes that is so important to us, i.e. the draft act amending the agricultural tax act, the act on local taxes and fees, the act on forest tax and the act on stamp duty. Not only what the current status is, but what awaits us in November, when the prepared draft will be processed in the Parliament.
Last year we also considered it necessary to examine the topic of trail/snow law, which is what the industry expected of us. The planned schedule of subsequent tasks is happening according to the designated timetable, but we believe that what we have achieved requires discussion in a broader industry group, precisely during the conference.

We will also want to invite a FIANET representative to explain to our industry why it is so important for us to cooperate at the European level and for our members to learn what benefits we can obtain thanks to membership in this European organization. I think that a small group is still aware of how much substantive support FIANET provides us.
Perhaps the thesis of this year's conference topic about the twilight of the ski industry is risky, and even fits into the narratives of pseudo-ecologists. This is pure contrariness, because we want to show what ski resorts are doing and what can be done to develop in a sustainable way. Secondly, we want to show what the predictions are regarding tourism by 2050 - ski resorts may become a refuge for tourists in the era of global warming. If we have enough time, we would also like to discuss practical solutions in ski resorts in order to fit into the trend of sustainable solutions.

Our host is a ski resort that is our member – PKL PALENICA. Thank you for willing to host our industry! We will have the opportunity to visit Palenica on the first day of the conference.

All that remains is to invite you to the October event in Szczawnica. We hope that it will be full of important lectures and discussions, joint conversations, which we believe will result in only positive things for the ski industry.
